When Skyrim VR was first announced, the fan reaction was immediate. On one hand, you had the players that are so in love with the wonderful world of Tamriel that they couldn’t help but to be thrilled about the new way to play their beloved game. On the other hand, some felt that Bethesda was “beating a dead horse (er, dragon?)” instead of focusing on new titles. No matter what side of the spectrum you are on, there’s one thing we can all agree on: Skyrim VR looks damn impressive.

A small portion of the developing team sat down to discuss the long journey of VR adaptation for the open-world title, including joking that the immersive atmosphere adds even more to an already incredibly expansive game. “Oh, great … now there’s bugs” – the crawly kind, not the “is this a feature” kind.

While with our hands on demo, we couldn’t get passed how broken the teleportationย mechanics were; we were happy to learn that they are optional. Aside from that, the game was stunning in Virtual Reality. As one dev says, having a dragon land right on top of you is infinitely more of an experience when it looks like it’s actually landing on top of you.ย
The dual weilding/casting game mechanics as well were a fun treat when posing that to the VR platform. The Virtual Reality capabilities make it to where that dual capability is infinitely more impressive. It’s not just about what’s in front of the player anymore, it’s all around. Youย areย in Tamriel. Youย areย fighting that dragon. Youย areย staring at that group of bugs for entirely too long and now you’ve made it awkward.ย
