Harmonix has made itself known with its Rock Band franchise over the past few years, but its career hasn't just been about plastic instruments. It's made some great music/rhythm games outside of that as well, including Frequency, Amplitude HD and the spin-off Rock Band Blitz.

But if you haven't discovered Blitz yet, you might want to hurry, as your opportunity is about to run out. The publisher noted today that the game is set to leave the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store soon, meaning you won't be able to download them on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 anymore.

The game and demo are set to be removed on or before August 28th. Those that have already purchased the game will have no trouble downloading it again, and if you own it, you can also port over the songs as Rock Band 4 downloadable content on the Xbox One free of charge. But come the end of August, if you don't have it, you're going to be missing out.

The company didn't note why the game was being removed from the store, but Rock Band 3 was removed previously from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 services, likely due to rights issues with some of the songs. That's the thing with some of these music/rhythm games – sometimes the rights just expire, and the content has to be removed as a result.

Still, good on Harmonix to give us some kind of warning before the game is removed from the service. While it plays differently from other Rock Band games, Blitz has a lot to offer in single player challenges. On top of that, it's compatible with a wide range of Rock Band DLC from previous games, so you can download it and play it to your heart's content.

The game's fairly cheap, clocking in around $15, so if you haven't experienced it yet, it's worth a look. It's not likely to come to Xbox One via backward compatibility, so you'll need your old Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 to do so. All the same, it's worth checking out – and the music playlist isn't too bad at all!
