You might have seen the news the other day that Capcom has expressed interest in doing a Dino Crisis remaster, depending on how much fan feedback it ends up getting. That has since prompted a few fans to ask about another classic possibly making a comeback, the PlayStation 2 action masterpiece Onimusha.
A Twitter user by the name of @cyanblueninja inquired about the game, and he’s not alone, as thousands of classic PS2 owners have been inquiring about the return of the Onimusha franchise for some time. Unfortunately, Capcom wasn’t really that optimistic about this particular one.

The company responded on Twitter, expressing gratitude for recognizing the greatness of Onimusha, while also stopping just short of making any promises. “Thank you! We want to make lots of games,” it noted. “Unfortunately, the development staff is limited.”
This is actually the first time we’ve heard about any kind of staff shortage over at Capcom, considering how immense a company it is, and how many projects the publisher has up in the air. But it kind of makes sense, considering its loaded plate for 2018 includes Devil May Cry HD Collection (which releases in February), along with its Street Fighter V updates, Street Fighter Collection, Mega Man 11, Mega Man X re-releases and Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 for Nintendo Switch, not to mention whatever else it has planned for the year.
But, honestly, you’d think that the publisher would realize how great an idea Onimusha Collection is. The trilogy gained some huge traction on the PlayStation 2 front, and even attracted The Professional star Jean Reno, who appeared in the third chapter as a playable character.
Maybe one day we’ll see that return. After all, the company has been thinking about it, as The Daily Star reported last year that it was under consideration. Street Fighter producer (and Blanka fan) Yoshinoro Ono noted, “All I can do for now is reassure fans that conversations are happening at high levels. We [Capcom] realize the need for different series to maybe come back into the forefront and although there’s nothing to talk about right now, I’m sure in the future there will be news on variety of series that will keep the fans happy. [Fan’s] favorites are going to come back.”
Fingers crossed, fans. Maybe we’ll see it again. Someday.
In the meantime, you can enjoy the original Onimusha games on PlayStation 2.
