Days Gone was unveiled by Sony with a good amount of fanfare last year's E3, and the company gave it another spotlight showing at their E3 2017 press conference. Developed by SIE Bend Studio (Syphon Filter, Uncharted: Golden Abyss), Days Gone is an open-world, post-apocalyptic zombie game. Basically, think The Walking Dead or The Last of Us, but with a lot more freedom. You can check out the new Days Gone gameplay walkthrough, above.

In the footage, we see protagonist Deacon set off in search of somebody called Manny, who got lost on a supply run. Unfortunately, after a bit of dangerous night driving, Deacon is knocked off his bike by a couple wannabe bandits. Deacon dispatches them with extreme prejudice. It seems the zombies aren't the only thing to fear in the world of Days Gone, as Deacon spends most of his time dealing with other humans. In fact, the one time we see a zombie horde, it's turns out to be beneficial, running off the bandits. Of course, all threats pale in comparison to the zombified grizzly bear we see at the end of the footage.

Here's Sony's official description of Days Gone:

"Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the 'safe' wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving. Skills learned in his prior life as an outlaw biker have given Deacon a slight edge in the seemingly never-ending fight to stay alive. But will it be enough?"

Days Gone arrives exclusively on the PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018.
