Bend Studio is working on a new PS5, or possibly PS6, game, and it doesn’t sound like Days Gone 2 at all. It has been seven years since the Oregon-based PlayStation studio shipped 2018’s Days Gone, which sold well but didn’t review very well. Since then, the first game was remastered for the PS5, but there’s been nothing else from it or Bend Studio. The latter has had at least a cancelled game or two and laid off 30% of the staff this summer, so obviously, things have not been going very well for the studio. To this end, it is still looking for senior talent, including a creative director, suggesting that whatever it is working on now is in the infancy stages.

Right now, PlayStation is trying to find a creative director for Bend Studio to shepherd the next game from the studio. As noted, this is not only interesting because it suggests that whatever the studio is cooking hasn’t gotten off the ground yet, as it wouldn’t without a creative director; but what’s more interesting are some of the details of the job listing.
Multiplayer
In the requirements section of the job listing, PlayStation lists that all interested in the position should have “experience with multiplayer game development and design.” You, of course, only need this experience if you are making a multiplayer game, or at least a game with a major multiplayer component. Days Gone obviously does not have multiplayer, nor would you assume a hypothetical Days Gone 2 would.
Lack of Days Gone Mentioned
Perhaps more telling is that the job listing only mentions Days Gone a single time in a section highlighting the studio’s previous games. What it doesn’t mention is that candidates need any familiarity with Days Gone; its world, its characters, its story, or its gameplay systems. Combine this with the need for experience in multiplayer, and it is pretty clear this project is not Days Gone 2 or anything even similar to it.
Previously, reporting has suggested Sony wants nothing to do with Days Gone, which is a big reason the studio shed its leadership and creative leads after the game’s release. Meanwhile, previous job listings have hinted at the studio working on live-service games, so even after cancelled projects, it’s not surprising to see the studio still being sent in this direction. All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forums. What do you want to see from Bend Studio next?
