One of the greatest feelings in Destiny is summoning your trusty sparrow and riding off into an alien sunset with your friends. Every single Destiny nerd loves the sound a Sparrow makes when it’s accelerating — that pulsating energy whistle — and we’ve all felt that virtual swoop in our stomachs as our Sparrows go bounding off of a high ledge and shooting into the air. It’s a great feeling in the game, and it could be a great feeling in real-life.

Various members of the “action sport collective” Nitro Circus banded together to drag this virtual thrill ride into the real world. A few weeks of research and development led to the creation of these high-powered Sparrows, which jet across the water and into the air just like their in-game counterparts. In the video below you’ll see Ryan Williams, Black Williams, Joey Natale, and the Hydro Circus stunt team as they push their new toys to their limits.
Warning: After you see this video, you’ll know a new kind of longing; one that can only be satisfied by riding a real life sci-fi speed bike. Check it out below.
Sparrows, Ride!

Yeah, it’s a little cheesy, but if you can watch that video and not crave taking one of those things out for a spin yourself, then you don’t have a pulse! These Sparrows can pretty much do everything that your in-game Sparrow can do as long as you have a source of water. Take off like a jet, get some air, pull of some dangerous tricks (because being safe is boring), and race your buddies. An official post from Activision gives us a better idea of how these beauties were engineered:
“These Sparrows were built from converted Jetovator technology and it took two months of research and development, building and testing to refine the vehicles in order for them to fly and to be able to pull off these insane tricks. With a speed of up to 25mph on water and the ability to soar up to 20 feet in the air, these Sparrows really can fly!”
As you might have guessed, you won’t find these guys for sale. If you’re going to live out this particular fantasy, you’re going to have to do some fancy engineering yourself. Otherwise, these Sparrows are as much of a fantasy as the one your Guardian rides.
If you had the chance, though, would you take one for a spin?
