Since Dune: Awakening arrived on June 10th, players have been pretty impressed with the Dune MMO. Since its release, Funcom’s expansive desert world has gotten several updates, with important fixes, new content, and more. But for many players who’ve sunk hours into the game, it’s just about time for the game’s first major story update and first DLC. And now, they’re going to get them even earlier than expected.

Funcom first announced the Chapter 2 free update and Lost Harvest DLC in August. At that time, the free content and paid DLC were expected to arrive on September 10th. But today, the Dune: Awakening developer revealed that it will be releasing both the free chapter update and the new DLC a full day early on September 9th. That means a ton of new content is headed to the game a full day early, giving players a reason to return to Arrakis once more.
What’s Coming in the Dune: Awakening Chapter 2 Free Update & Lost Harvest DLC

When it arrives on September 9th, the Chapter 2 update will introduce the first major influx of new story content since Dune: Awakening‘s release. This free update will add the next chapter to the main story, following on the events at the end of Chapter 1. Players will be able to explore new places, meet new characters, and continue to unravel the mystery of their own origin. For those who blew through the game’s existing story content, the free update will offer a much-needed influx of fresh things to do in Arrakis.
Story may be the highlight, but it’s not all this major free content update for Dune: Awakening has to offer. The free Chapter 2 update will also add new contracts, new dynamic encounters, ways to re-customize your character, and plenty of other new goodies. So, Dune: Awakening will feel fresh as of September 9th, even for players who don’t plan to buy the paid DLC.
That said, if you want even more new content in Dune: Awakening, the first paid DLC will arrive a day early on September 9th as well. Called The Lost Harvest, this DLC will include a new, standalone story that expands on the game. Players will embark on a mission to find a missing Miner’s Guild spice harvester carrying important cargo.
The Lost Harvest also includes unique cosmetics, including the Treadwheel vehicle. The DLC also features new armor and weapon skins, along with new ways to customize your base. The DLC is included if you already purchased the Dune: Awakening Season Pass, or can be purchased for $12.99 separately. It is the first of 3 planned DLC for the game’s first season, so more are on the way for Season Pass holders.

All of this new content will now be available a full day earlier than originally planned. And Funcom is celebrating the release with another free weekend, letting gamers check out Dune: Awakening free of charge. The free weekend takes place from September 11th-15th, a little after the new content arrives.
