Despite a bumpy start that’s slowly being smoothed out by some much-needed patches and glitch fixes, it looks like the team behind Friday the 13th: The Game is already looking forward to adding in some additional content, some of which might be coming very soon.

For those who are just now getting up to speed on the movie series’ history and learning more about the story behind Jason Voorhees, the occasional date of Friday the 13th is not the only significant date that’s found in the movies. More specifically, Jason was born on June 13 according to the character’s lore, a date that’s not too far away from now.
The significance of the date coupled with the recent release of the game prompted one user to ask the game’s team on Twitter if there would be any plans for content in honor of the masked killer’s birthday. Friday the 13th: The Game’s response clearly hints at something to do with Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees.
Pamela, the main antagonist of the first Friday the 13th film, was a mother distraught over Jason’s supposed drowning, an incident that set her off on her own killing spree. There’s no question that the game’s team has considered adding Pamela to the game; that much was made clear during their initial Kickstarter phase where they had a series of lofty stretch goals that would allow additional content to be added into the game. Adding Pamela as an additional killer would require them hitting the goal of just over $3.7 million.
You let him drown. Jason was my son.

As far as Kickstarter pledges go, the game earned just over $800,000, so it does seem a bit soon to implement Pamela as a new killer. But the response definitely points to something related to Pamela, and it’s something that the community has definitely been hoping for recently. Amid the tactics, frustrations, and memes shared over on Reddit about the game, one reoccurring suggestion is to add Pamela as a killer. Players debated how Pamela would go about killing the Counselors without inhuman strength and teleportation, but a workaround was suggested to include the undead version of Pamela to justify her having supernatural powers. Pamela being able to crawl through windows and hide like Counselors were just a few of the ideas of how she could go about her killing spree, relying more on sneaky tactics and trickery than brute force like her son.
The news could also mean the upcoming release of the game’s story mode. While it started off as a purely multiplayer experience, devs said that they were working on adding a story mode that would be released sometime this summer. An offline experience, the story mode would pit players as Jason against AI Counselors in both classic and new scenarios. Putting player in control of Jason would certainly mean some interaction with Pamela, even if it’s all just voiced in Jason’s head.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what exactly the team has planned for Jason’s birthday, if anything. June 13 isn’t far away, and they may try and squeeze in their own news or updates amid all the announcements that come with E3.
