Hogwarts Legacy just got a new feature more than two years after its original release. While Harry Potter fans wait for Hogwarts Legacy 2 — which sounds like a completely different game — developer Avalanche Software and publisher WB Games continue to support the first game. While it doesn’t look like the game is getting any new content, and while updates are now infrequent, support hasn’t dried up quite yet, as is evident by this latest development.

Those with a copy on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, and PS5 don’t have anything new, though, because what’s new is limited to Xbox users. And that is because what is new is that Hogwarts Legacy now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, a feature Microsoft introduced all the way back in 2016.
What This New Feature Does
With Xbox Play Anywhere, Hogwarts Legacy fans can now play the game across both Xbox and PC without needing to buy the game more than once. This also comes with cross-save as well as cross-buy. So if you have a Windows 10/11 copy of the game, you now also have an Xbox copy. Likewise, if you have an Xbox copy, you now also have a PC copy of the Harry Potter game.
This may seem two years too late; however, many continue to play Hogwarts Legacy in 2025. To this end, on Steam alone, it hit 13,444 peak players over the last 24 hours. In other words, this new feature will still come in handy for many.
“Great News”
As you would expect, those who are impacted — or potentially impacted — are excited. While Xbox Play Anywhere isn’t a brand new feature, many games have been gun-shy about supporting it, so it’s always good to see another game add it, especially one of the most popular games of the generation.
“Great news, might replay it someday on PC, and now I don’t need to waste my money twice,” writes one fan of the news. Another adds: “Dope! Will play it on the Xbox Ally for final achievements.”
Those who don’t already own Hogwarts Legacy are missing out on one of 2023’s best games, as our official review of the Harry Potter game notes. Unfortunately, right now, the Microsoft Store does not have any version of the open-world RPG on sale. This will certainly change during the holiday season, though.
