A new tutorial trailer for Hunt: Showdown shows off the game's monster-hunting inventory system along with some deeper mechanics that are vital for a successful hunt.

An upcoming game from Crytek, Hunt: Showdown puts players in control of various hunters who all boast their own unique sets of strengths, weaknesses, and tools of the trade. Worrying about which hunters are best for your team will come later, but starting out is easy enough by selecting a hunter to hire with in-game money. From there, you'll want to outfit them with special gear that includes two weapons along with various tools and consumables like firebombs, dynamite, and first aid kits. These items can be purchased from the in-game store using the same money that you'd spend on hunters, so managing your funds is also essential to having the most optimal loadouts.

One of the most interesting parts of Hunt: Showdown is the game's emphasis on co-op gameplay. Players can invite a teammate to join them on their hunt to create teams of two that have to work together against both PvE monsters and PvP opponents, but if you don't have a friend to assist you, you'll be matched with a random teammate online.

After selecting a contract that determines the monster you'll hunt, the game begins, and players are dropped off in a sandbox map alongside their teammate. Various points of interest such as supply drops and compounds are shown on a personal map that can be pulled up at any time, the compounds being the potential locations of your monstrous objective. By finding clues around the map, you'll be able to narrow down the exact area where the monster is hiding. After killing the monster and collecting the loot, you now have to escape the map.

That's where the other PvP players come in. Throughout the entire match, they'll be hunting for the monster just like you were. Once you pick up the monster's loot and banish the creature, the other players will be notified of your location. From there, they'll attempt to find you and take the loot forcibly, so escaping quickly is key to keeping your hard-earned prize.

Hunt: Showdown is releasing for the PC with a closed alpha recently taking place.
