Injustice 2 has been out for over two weeks at this point, and there already seems to be a fairly broad consensus on who some of the best and worst characters are, but the game’s tier list isn’t set in stone just yet. Injustice 2 had its first major tournament at last weekend’s Combo Breaker 2017 event, and it proved to be eye-opening, with some previously low-ranked characters doing surprisingly well. Aside from all that, regular players are also starting to get a hang of some characters that may have been somewhat difficult to master at first.
At this point, we know characters like Deadshot, Black Adam, Supergirl, and Darkseid are monsters, but there are some other, underappreciated fighters you may want to look into. These fighters may be underrated and ignored now, but they have a lot of potential, and who knows? A month from now they may have crept into the top tier. So, you’d better start mastering their combos, now!

Scroll on down for the five most underrated Injustice 2 characters. Of course, this list is somewhat subjective, but with practice you should be able to kicks ass with all of themโฆ
โ
Atrocitus
Atrocitus was dismissed initially, because he’s a big slow character and those are tough to master, but people’s eyes were opened when an Atrocitus player made it to the Grand Finals of this past weekend’s Combo Breaker tournament. It’s actually fairly easy to see why the character did well โ he’s a big, strong, brawler with some good combos, but he also has access to feline buddy Dex Starr who can create protective barriers and fire off ranged attacks. It’s a best of both worlds situation. Ed Boon himself has said Atrocitus is his favorite Injustice 2 character, and it’s becoming easier to understand why.
โ
Poison Ivy
Poison Ivy isn’t necessarily a low-tier character, but she consistently hovers around the middle of the rankings and doesn’t tend to get a lot of attention. It’s time to change that, because Ms. Isley has the potential to be a top character. Ivy has a nice variety of moves, and even though she doesn’t have any projectiles, her attacks still have really good range. Her timing can be a little tough to get down, but once you do, you can unleash some pretty nasty mid-screen combos. Ivy definitely has a lot of room to grow.

Blue Beetle
Blue Beetle appeared as if he was going to be one of Injustice 2‘s best new characters prior to the game’s launch, but players were seemingly unimpressed once they actually took him for a test drive. The main issue with Blue Beetle is a simple one โ he’s fairly weak, and his moves don’t do much damage. Winning with him means chip, chip, chipping away at your opponent’s life bar. That said, outside of that, he’s not a bad character at all. He’s fast, got some great combos, and he can fly! Blue Beetle is a lot of fun to play as, and can be effective, as long you’re okay with matches taking a bit longer to wrap up.ย
โ
Black Canary
Like Blue Beetle, Black Canary got a lot of attention before launch, but has kind of been left by the wayside now that the game has come out. People just don’t seem to like Injustice 2‘s rushdown characters as much as the ranged-attack-throwing zoners, with characters like Black Canary and Flash consistently suffering in the rankings. That will probably change as players continue to get a hang of the game, and Black Canary has a lot of potential with some impressive high-damage combos and the ability to mix things up and keep opponents guessing.
โ
Gorilla Grodd
Okay, this one is largely a personal choice. Why the heck aren’t more people playing as the evil super-intelligent gorilla, dammit? Grodd isn’t nearly as bad as some people think he is. Yes, there are a lot of somewhat odd holes in Grodd’s game, but he’s strong as hell, and can do some scary damage with fairly basic moves. Really, he’s above average for a heavy brawler/grappler type โ probably second only to Atrocitus. At the very least, if you’re strictly a casual player, Grodd is a fun character to pound away on your friends with.
There you are โ five characters who deserve a little more love from the Injustice 2 community. I’m sure you have your own five you think are underrated, and that’s fine. The real takeaway here, is to try something new. Don’t just main Supergirl and Black Adam because the cool kids are doing it.
