If you're growing tired of playing the Legend of the Poro King game mode as well as the Ascension mode that both show up fairly often, you'll be happy to hear that URF is coming back to the PBE for testing, though perhaps not in the way that everyone would hope for. All Random URF, more commonly seen simply as AR URF, is back on the PBE for testing.

For those who are wondering why the game mode even needs more testing and why they can't simply push it live to next weekend, there have actually been quite a few changes since the last time that AR URF was enabled. To provide context on how much has changed since we saw any form of URF previously, here's a list of what's new since then to help explain why it needs testing once more:

New Champions

  • Xayah
  • Rakan
  • Kayn

New Reworks

  • Maokai
  • Zac
  • Sejuani
  • Urgot
  • Galio
  • Warwick

For those players who are less familiar with URF and why it's such a big deal to League – regardless of what form it might come in – URF has been regarded as a fan-favorite since its inception despite seeing barely any time in the rotating game mode queue. The AR URF version grants you a random champ to play on Summoner's Rift, but you'll still play with 80 percent cooldown reduction, no mana costs, a higher level cap, and several other buffs and tweaks when it comes to damage, shields, and heals. Karthus is a no-go in all URF modes though, the mage being removed from play to avoid getting blasted by his ultimate over and over again.

When the announcement was made recently that the game mode would be back on the PBE, the news was inevitably met with questions concerning where the original URF mode was where players could pick their own champions. No questions were answered about URF, but Riot Stephiroth did speak on the All For One mode that is another popular rotation.

"It's unfortunately one of the more complex ones to move into the new client," Stephiroth said about All For One while adding that it's on the list of game modes to bring back. "We have to completely re-create the Champion Select portion from scratch. Because of the amount of work it takes to bring it back, we've de-prioritized it for now to make new modes (like Dark Star) and new maps/map accents."

Ascension is scheduled to be playable this weekend and the next, but after that, we can likely look forward to some AR URF action.
