The second of two hotifixes to come since Wednesday’s patch, the most recent one nerfed Janna’s auto attack damage as well as her “E,” Eye of the Storm. The auto attack damage was one of the more noticeable changes that shipped with the most recent patch, but the nerf to her shielding ability will allow enemies to break through her passive gameplay style a bit easier with less defenses to pierce.
This hotfix that went live on Thursday follows the nerf on Wednesday that targeted the champion’s base stats and her Zephyr ability. Below are the hotfixes that have come for Janna since the patch, the first one being the most recent hotfix from Thursday and the other the initial hotfix for those who didn’t catch it earlier:
9/28 Hotfix:
- Passive – Tailwind
- Percent of bonus movement speed dealt as magic damage reduced at early levels from 35% >>> 15/25/35% at levels 1/7/13
- E – Eye of the Storm
- Shield decreased from 80/120/160/200/240 >>> 70/105/140/175/210
9/27 Hotfix:
- Base Stats
- Base Movement Speed :: 335 >>> 320
- Base Health :: 525 >>> 500
- Base Mana :: 409.52 >>> 350
- Zephyr (W)
- Cost :: 40/50/60/70/80 >>> 50/60/70/80/90
The changes to Janna in Patch 7.19 looked to make the support a bit more proactive and less off a shield bot in lane, but they instead prompted Janna’s to become pretty aggressive instead. With almost 100 extra attack range along with bonus damage added to the attacks that scaled with movement speed, Janna’s were trading with supports and ADCs alike despite a moderate nerf to her base attack damage. Adding a 35 percent scaling auto attacks made her do quite a bit more damage, but the most recent nerf will allow her to keep some of that while pushing the majority of it to the late game.
While the changes to Janna that came with the recent patch were planned to make the champion perform better in the hands of Janna veterans while lightening the load of the tornado-casting bandwagon, her winrate actually jumped up even higher after the patch. It reached just around 59 percent, indicating that even though the Janna mains might’ve been doing better, others were also finding success with the more aggressive version of the champion.
The hotfixes might not be the last that we see for Janna given how quickly they’ve come since the patch, but more context on her performance will likely come within the next week.
