Not long after League of Legends' Patch 7.14 rolled out, there was already talks of toning down Singed to make the toxic tank less oppressive in the top lane. If you were playing League much last night, you might've noticed a small update on your client — that was a nerf to Singed that hit three parts of Singed's kit in addition to some additional nerfs to Nunu. Considering the resistance that many players had to Singed being nerfed at all, this adjustment really isn't that bad, though.

While the first buffs to Singed in the recent patch improved each of his abilities and some of his base stats, the nerfs lowered his overall health and increased the cooldown of his ultimate, Insanity Potion. The original plan that was tweeted out by Riot Meddler as a rough idea for the hotfix involved raising the cooldown of his Mega Adhesive, an ability that was often ignored pre-patch Singed but is now much more valuable since it grounds enemies with a reduced slow at later ranks.

Below is the changelist for the nerfs as well as an explanation from Meddler on the decision:

  • BASE HEALTH: 610 >>>580
  • HEALTH GROWTH: 90 >>>85
  • INSANITY POTION COOLDOWN: 100 seconds at all ranks >>>120/110/100 seconds

"We're glad to see Singed in a stronger spot, and that was one of the big goals of the recent changes, but that doesn't mean any magnitude of buff was appropriate and this one overshot quite a bit," Meddler said during his most recent Gameplay Thoughts post.

Meddler added that the urgency for the hotfix stemmed from inexperienced Singed players easily picking up the champ and doing well as opposed to just those who had experience working around Singed's extremely unique playstyle. These hotfixes are used rarely enough to quickly fix champions who have been overbuffed or overnerfed, and while they're planning on doing "slightly more hotfixes" in the future, he said that it's still a risky method of changing things that could cause bugs, though it is improving.

Nunu also got nerfed once again to decrease his pressure in the jungle with the now-updated patch notes, and while his abilities weren't affected, his base stats were lowered:

  • BASE HEALTH: 575 >>>535
  • HEALTH GROWTH: 90 >>>85
  • MOVEMENT SPEED: 350 >>>345

A bugfix for custom games was also pushed to allow players to once again trade champions in champion select.
