Several changes are coming to the missions in League of Legends to create a better experience for players across all five roles.

The missions provide extra loot-based incentives during games, but they don’t always cater to each playstyle. If you’re a support, being asked to get a certain number of kills can feel pretty rough, sometimes even prompting players to go for off-role builds or other deviations from their normal strategy. That’s one of the main issues that Riot Games has looked to avoid with the new, more diverse missions that are coming soon.
“With the launch of the Worlds 2017 Missions, you can see that we now have the ability to create Missions with a ton of new objectives,” an update about the missions read. “Things like dragons, ward placements, and item purchases are just some of the types of Missions you’ll see. With this, we think you’ll be able to try some more types of Missions (which should feel pretty good, we hope).”
Mission Improvements

One of the options that players can soon look forward to is missions that have options to them that should account for everyone’s preferred playstyle. An example that was provided was either killing 500 minions or jungle monsters or getting 30 assists, something that any player should be able to achieve.
Another method of improving the missions is putting more emphasis on winning games when completing the goals. Simply winning a game isn’t much of a mission since you’re already trying to do that, so that goal is being added to normal missions. For example, one proposed mission was to get 100 assists, and each game that players win will double the assist count for that game towards their goal.
Mission Rewards

The last part of the missions that are being improved โ and likely the one that players care about the most โ is the loot that players obtain through the challenges.
At the moment, Riot says that there are basically three types of rewards: A standard reward, commitment rewards, and skill rewards. The standard incentives include loot tokens, Blue Essence, and Summoner Icons, and they’ll also include XP when the level cap is removed. Commitment rewards on the other hand are the rewards that players can earn during limited-time events such as Arcade Summoner Icons and launch borders for skins. The final category, the skill rewards, are for those who complete extremely challenging missions. These will be added sparingly to avoid getting stale, but all of the missions are expected to get better loot options soon.
“Overall, our goal is for Missions to open you up to new experiences and challenges,” the post read. “When you complete them, you should feel incredibly satisfied and proudโand have something to remember and commemorate your accomplishment. We hope we can deliver on that goal.”
