In case you missed our report, DONTNOD is working on a sequel to Life Is Strange. We knew that much already, since it was officially announced. What was never announced, and has yet to be announced, is a Life Is Strange prequel, which is also apparently in the works, according to some recently leaked images. There are a handful of leaked images which seem to confirm that the prequel project is legitimate, and you can find them all in the gallery below.

From the images it appears that the game will star Chloe this time around, and we can see a variety of new environments and scenarios from the concept art. Toward the end of the gallery you’ll two characters stooped underneath a bent and burning tree. It’s a peculiar image, and it’s hard to tell whether the character directly under the tree is somehow bending the tree with supernatural powers, or simply bent over and reaching.
Adding fuel to the rumor flames is the recent announcement that Idol Minds, developer of the PS3 game Pain, has re-branded as Deck Nine to work on a new narrative game from a “critically acclaimed franchise.” From the Gematsu report:
“Idol Minds, developer of the PlayStation 3 title Pain, has rebranded as Deck Nine Games as the result of a shift in direction to focus on the creation of narrative-driven titles, and are ‘deep in development’ on a new addition to a ‘critically acclaimed franchise’ from a ‘leading AAA video game publisher,’ more information on which will be revealed at E3 2017, the company announced.”
This was announced seemingly at the same time as these images leaked, and we’re all expecting the announcement of this prequel at E3. We assume that the game would be developed in Deck Nine’s new proprietary “StoryForge” toolset.
“With the creation of our new, proprietary toolset StoryForge and the shift in studio focus, we are removing the shackles from our creative team and bringing together our two passions; meaningful storytelling and rich gameplay,” said Deck Nine vice president Jeff Litchford. “We’ve invested heavily in our staff of incredibly talented developers and in creating some truly remarkable tools. Our game will be announced at E3 this year where you’ll be able to see our efforts for yourself.”
We should know in a couple of weeks whether the Life Is Strange sequel is indeed in the works from Deck Nine. Stay tuned.
