We knew that the start of Season 4 would bring one of two new characters, with the second set to arrive at the midway point. Fans also prepped for new events, new limited-time game modes, and of course, a new battle pass. Some new additions to Marvel Rivals have been instant wins for the majority of fans, as was the case with Emma Frost. Others, like Phoenix, got immediate backlash for overpowered skills. And then, there’s Angela. After a little over a day to experience the latest Vanguard, it seems like fans still haven’t quite made up their minds about the newest addition to the roster. Some are already bored and looking ahead to Daredevil’s arrival with Season 4.5, while others are praising Angela as the best Vanguard yet. So, is Angela good in Marvel Rivals? Apparently, it depends on who you ask.
Marvel Rivals Fans Debate Whether Angela Adds Anything New to the Game
Marvel Rivals Season 4 officially arrived on September 12th, bringing us the 42nd new character added to the roster. Compared to other recent additions like Ultron, Angela is a deeper cut in Marvel lore. With her Asgardian ties, she’s linked to existing Marvel Rivals characters Thor, Loki, and Hela. Naturally, that means a good bit of additional dialogue between characters will arrive alongside her. But how is Angela fitting into the playable roster in Marvel Rivals so far?
Angela’s character design is a fun one, with plenty of muscle and heft. But as the first flying Vanguard, she’s introducing new playstyle options to the game, and that’s where player opinions are mixed. After just over a day to experience her as an ally, foe, and personal choice, Marvel Rivals fans are pretty divided. To some, it seems that she doesn’t really add anything new compared to other Vanguards like Thor and Captain America. One Redditor says she’s already irrelevant, comparing her to the quick flash in the pan of popularity that was Ultron’s introduction in Season 3.
Of course, it’s natural for everyone to try out the new character to see how it feels, even if they don’t plan to stick with them long term. So it’s not surprising that the number of Angelas running around has already tapered off compared to the first hours after her debut. But with all the complaints that she’s not bringing anything new to the table, there are some players who are really enjoying Angela’s playstyle so far.
Aside from being a Vanguard that can fly, Angela’s skills do largely mirror existing abilities in the game. As the roster expands, it’s natural that some characters are going to have moves similar to ones already in the game. But those who like Angela so far say that her combination of skills makes her a useful jack of all trades character, with more versatility compared to other Vanguards. And that flight makes her quick and helps her get around more quickly than some of the more lumbering tanks. In fact, her flight speed is pretty impressive, letting her even catch up to the infamous Jeff the Shark.
Clearly, Marvel Rivals fans already have a love/hate reaction with Angela. Like any new addition, it’s likely that she will see some balance adjustments as NetEase monitors player feedback like this. So far, though, it doesn’t seem like most of the mixed opinions come from any obvious overpowered or underpowered abilities, unlike some prior new entries. It will be interesting to see how Angela settles into the meta as time passes and players get a real feel for how she fits into existing strategies – or creates new ones.
