A new PS5 console exclusive game has been announced and dated for release in 2026, and it is said to be inspired by a great, but sometimes forgotten, Square Enix PS1 RPG. For those that do not know, a console exclusive game is a game that is also available on PC, but not on any other console, or, in this case, available on Nintendo Switch or Xbox Series X.

Recently, a new PS5 console exclusive was announced that is set to bring back a classic PS2 series; now it’s time for nostalgics of the PS1 to get their fix. And, in particular, the new PS5 game may be of interest to Parasite Eve fans. The new PS5 game is called Parasite Mutant, from developer IceSitruuna, the studio previously behind Frontier Hunter: Erzaโs Wheel of Fortune.
About the Game
In Parasite Mutant, players will play as Psionic Agent Nova, who has been sent to a mysterious abandoned island city to investigate what happened. What she finds is a hidden conspiracy and a secret that will change her fate completely.
That’s the story pitch. The gameplay, meanwhile, combines the Active Time Battle system used and popularized in the late 90s by various RPGs and a three-segment chain system. Beyond this, it looks like a pretty standard action RPG meets survival-horror game.
Parasite Eve Inspiration
As noted, the game is inspired, in particular, by Parasite Eve, an RPG developed and published by Square back in 1998 before it merged with Enix and became known as Square Enix, which retains the IP to this day, though does nothing with it. Back in 2018, Square Enix renewed the trademark of the series, indicating it was doing something with it, but there has been nothing since.
Upon release, Parasite Eve earned an 81 on Metacritic, and, over time, earned a cult-classic status among PlayStation fans. The game itself is actually a sequel to a 1995 novel of the same name and got its own sequel, Parasite Eve II, in 1999. Then, another follow-up in 2010, The 3rd Birthday. In the 15 years since, the series has been dormant, much to the disappointment of fans.
As you can see in the trailer above, Parasite Mutant isn’t just inspired by Parasite Eve, but almost copies it in places. Whether IceSitruuna will be able to deliver, though, remains to be seen. The aforementioned Frontier Hunter: Erzaโs Wheel of Fortune earned a pretty mixed reception and was a Metroidvania. This looks to be a pretty big step up in terms of ambition.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what, or join the conversation on the ComicBook Forum. Will you be checking this release out when it hits in 2026?
