When Metroid: Samus Returns releases, it won’t just be the game itself that features the helmeted visage of protagonist Samus Aran.

We’re not too far off from the release of Metroid: Samus Returns, Nintendo‘s revival of the side-scrolling action series. The game, developed by MercurySteam (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and its sequel), looks to be a fun throwback to the older days in the series. Of course, it would help if players had a stellar system to play it on, and now Nintendo’s providing one.
The publisher has announced a special “Samus Edition” of its New Nintendo 3DS XL that will launch alongside the game on September 15th. The system will sell for $200, but, like other limited edition models of the system, it does not include a copy of the game. That’s typical Nintendo fashion, though, so it’s no real surprise.
The system features an embossed orange-colored cover featuring Samus Aran in a battle pose. As you can see from the attached gallery for the system, there are even more details on the back with a gold design similar to that of Samus’ armor along with her trademark emblem.
Like other models Nintendo has released in the past, the “Samus Edition” of the system will likely be produced in limited numbers, so if you can get your hands on one, consider yourself very lucky. There’s no word on when pre-orders will open up, but considering that the system is official now, it wouldn’t hurt to check in with your local retailer to see if they say anything.
This is bound to be a big hit with Metroid fans, and can’t help but leave us wondering โ can we get a limited edition Nintendo Switch bundle with Metroid Prime 4 when it eventually arrives? Granted, it’ll be a while, but, man, orange and yellow JoyConsโฆwe’d be down.
Metroid: Samus Returns releases on September 15th for Nintendo 3DS and 2DS systems. Don’t forget that Amazon Prime members can save 20% when they pre-order.
