Three different Nintendo Switch 2 games just released onto the Nintendo eShop are free for some, courtesy of free upgrades. In other words, anyone who owns said game on the Nintendo Switch will be getting this new Switch 2 version for free. Often, there is an upgrade fee involved when this happens, and sometimes there is no upgrade path at all. What’s not often is there being an upgrade path and it being free, so to get three examples of this at once is noteworthy.

The most noteworthy of these three new Nintendo Switch 2 games is 1000xResist, an adventure game released by developer Sunset Visitor and publisher Fellow Traveler Games back in 2024. And it’s the most noteworthy of the three games because it is the best of the three games. To this end, it has an 87 on Metacritic and glowing user review scores across the Internet. For example, on Steam, it has a 96% approval rating after 4,654 user reviews. This nets it an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, which, for those who do not know, is the best possible rating a PC game can earn on Steam.
1000xResist
The sci-fi adventure game takes place 1,000 years in the future, where humanity is all but extinct, and a disease spread by an occupying alien force keeps all survivors underground. In this world, you are the Watcher, dutifully fulfilling your purpose to the Allmother until one day you discover a secret that changes everything.
Another Crab’s Treasure
The second most noteworthy new Nintendo Switch 2 game is Another Crab’s Treasure, a fellow 2024 release, but from developer Aggro Crab. This is another fan-favorite, as evidenced by its 94% approval rating on Steam. It did not fare quite as well with critics, though. To this end, it has a 78 on Metacritic, which is a solid score, but obviously not as high as its consumer score. For what it is worth, we think critics got it wrong and that it is a bona fide hidden gem.
In the third-person soulslike adventure game, you play as Kril, a hermit crab in a crumbling underwater world who needs to wear the trash all around you as a shell in order to take on enemies many times your size. While trying not to die, you will journey forth to find your lost shell and, along the way, discover the dark secrets behind the polluted ocean.
Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo
Lastly, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, a 2025 game from developer Pocket Trap and publisher PM Studios that flew under the radar of most but proved to be a fan-favorite. To this end, it has a 97% approval rating after 1,954, which lands it the aforementioned “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam. And it pairs this with an 87 on Metacritic. From a quality perspective, it’s as good as 1000xResist; it’s just less known than the two games above it.
In the game, a 2D top-down platforming adventure, you explore vast urban landscapes and reinterpret them with your mastery of yoyo tricks. Navigating through various districts, you will methodically fight rival crime bosses until you regain all the influence of the Pipistrello family.
