Nintendo is removing one of its own games, a Nintendo Switch exclusive, from the Nintendo eShop. The new announcement follows the removal of a couple of classic games from the Nintendo eShop last week, so the timing is not great. What makes this new delisting more noteworthy than normal, though, is the fact that it’s not a third-party game on the console, but a Nintendo game. It’s not often Nintendo games are delisted, especially so soon after release.

The Nintendo Switch game in question is Fitness Boxing 2, which Imagineer and Nintendo released back in 2020. Those interested in checking out this Nintendo Switch game now have until November 28, when it will be permanently delisted. Nintendo has not provided a reason for why the Switch exclusive game is being delisted, but it is almost certainly an issue with licensing.
Rare, But Not Surprising
While it’s not common that Nintendo games are delisted, this particular delisting is not that surprising because the first Fitness Boxing game was already delisted back in 2023, five years after its release in 2018. Now, five years after the release of Fitness Boxing 2, it is being delisted. It is presumably safe to assume this will be the timeline of all Fitness Boxing games.
Why Is Fitness Boxing 2 Being Delisted?
As noted, Nintendo does not say why Fitness Boxing 2 is being removed from sale on the Nintendo eShop. This isn’t that surprising, as developers aren’t always transparent about this, especially Japanese developers. That said, it is safe to assume this is a licensing issue. While Fitness Boxing 2 doesn’t license original songs, it has instrumental covers of various original music. The licensing involved with this is different, but it’s still licensing nonetheless.
Future of the Game and Nintendo Switch 2
While Fitness Boxing 2 will be removed from the Nintendo eShop on November 28, it will remain live and playable beyond this date. And right now, there is no word of a second shutdown date. In addition to this, not only will it be playable beyond this date, but downloadable. It just won’t be purchasable.
Those on Nintendo Switch 2, meanwhile, can’t play the game in question natively, but it is available and playable on the new Nintendo console via backward compatibility. So this news also impacts Switch 2 users in addition to those on the last-gen Switch. With the Switch 2’s upcoming lineup, though, most probably won’t notice this delisting.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Will you be picking up this Nintendo Switch exclusive game before it’s removed from the Nintendo eShop? If so, you will need to fork over $49.99. If this is too much, right now the eShop has a $60 games available for just $2.
