The Big N has had a good year so far with the release of their latest platform, the Nintendo Switch. With more third party support than ever before, and surprising titles such as Wolfenstein, DOOM, and even potentially Grand Theft Auto V; more and more gamers are giving the latest console a lot of attention.

According to new US market research data, the Switch continues to excel in the market with impressive launch numbers and a steady build up in its audience. NPD analyst Mat Piscatella took to Twitter to give a little insight into where the current position within Nintendo's history:

To clarify what Piscatella meant by launch year, he was referring to calendar year terms, where statistics didn't only apply to unit sales as per consumer habits, nor does it factor in pack in-hardware such as the Wii Sports software. Because of this, the early April launch helped the numbers game in perspective to Nintendo's history.

All things considered, the Nintendo Switch has been the comeback that Nintendo needed after the Wii-U's perceived flop and the frustration building with hard-to-get stock. With more and more third party developers pledging their support for Nintendo's console, and the library growing by the week, the Switch has been a significant turning point for the Gaming Godfather.

The Nintendo Switch is out now, including console accessories, for $299.99. There are also a few bundles available as well, including a festively coloured Splatoon 2 bundle for $379.99
