Six months ago, Pokemon Go expanded its PokeDex by adding over 80 new Pokemon from Pokemon Gold and Silver to the game. And while the game isn’t finished rolling out its “Gen 2” Pokemon, people are already wondering when the next major Pokemon rollout will take place.

Next up is the “Gen 3” Pokemon first introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire nearly 15 years ago. “Gen 3” contains over 120 new Pokemon, including eight Legendary Pokemon and several non-Legendary powerhouses considered to be among the most powerful in the game.
It took about eight months for Pokemon Go to add new Pokemon, and it seems like game developers have been busy with other priorities…like the long-awaited gym overhaul, Raid Battles, and Legendary Pokemon. In fact, we haven’t seen any evidence that Pokemon Go is close to adding any new Pokemon to the game.
However, that’s not going to stop fans from clamoring for new Pokemon, so today we’re going to look at the five strongest non-Legendary Pokemon that will be added next in Pokemon Go:
Honorable Mention: Slaking
Before we get to the “top 5” Pokemon in the next generation, we probably should address the elephant in the room….or at least the giant sloth.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire introduced Slaking, a giant gorilla-like Pokemon with insane stats far higher than just about any other Pokemon. With an Attack stat of 351 (higher than that of Mewtwo) and a Stamina stat of 300 (about the same as Mewtwo,) Slaking’s CP is estimated at a 5441, far higher than any other Pokemon in the game.
But here’s the thing: Slaking isn’t all that powerful in the main Pokemon franchises. In the main games, Slaking has an ability called “Truant” that mean it attacks only once every other turn. This cancels out Slaking’s massive stats and makes it much easier to battle in the games.
We’re not sure how Pokemon Go will address Slaking in the game, but we doubt that it’ll keep its insane stats without a catch. That’s why Slaking doesn’t make our “Top 5” list of Pokemon.
Swampert
Get ready for some Starter Pokemon that will actually be useful in the game! Swampert is the fully evolved form of Mudkip, the Water-Type starter in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. What makes Swampert particularly useful is that it’s a Water/Ground dual-type, thus cancelling out its weakness to Electric-Type attacks. Swampert will also have a big advantage of Fire-Type Pokemon, which could come in handy against certain Legendary Pokemon.
Swampert has an estimated Attack stat of 208, an estimated Defense stat of 175, and an estimated Stamina stat of 200, which means that it’ll be a strong gym attacker and a somewhat viable defender.
Gardevoir
Gardevoir has the potential to become a super-strong glass cannon in Pokemon Go. A Psychic/Fairy dual-type, Gardevoir is poised to take down Dragon-Type Pokemon like Dragonite and Fighting-Type Pokemon like Machamp with ease. Gardevoir’s dual-typing also means that it doesn’t have a weakness to Dark-Type attacks like many other Psychic-Type Pokemon. There’s only one real problem with Gardevoir: its Stamina stat is projected to be very low, meaning that a lot of charge attacks will take it out in one attack.
Gardevoir has an estimated Attack stat of 208, an estimated Defense stat of 175, and an estimated Stamina stat of 200, which means that it’ll be a strong gym attacker and a somewhat viable defender.
Aggron
Aggron is poised to become one of two viable Steel-Type Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Aggron is a Rock/Steel dual-type with high Attack and Defense stats. Aggron’s Rock-Type attacks will give it a lot of value in raids, while its Steel-Typing makes it resistant to all but a handful of attacks. While Aggron doesn’t have the best Stamina stat, it’s counterbalanced somewhat by a great Defense stat.
Aggron has an estimated Attack stat of 198, an estimated Defense stat of 314, and an estimated Stamina stat of 140, which means that it’ll be both a strong gym attacker and a decent gym defender.

Salamance
Salamance is basically a beefed up version of Dragonite. The first of two “pseudo-legendary Pokemon” in Gen 3, Salamance is a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon just like Dragonite. However, Salamance has a much higher Attack stat and a slightly higher Stamina stat than Dragonite, which means it’s much better gym attacker and raid battler than Dragonite. It does have a lower Defense stat than Dragonite, which means you might want to keep Dragonite around as a gym defender over Salamance.
Salamance has an estimated Attack stat of 277, an estimated Defense stat of 168, and an estimated Stamina stat of 198, which means that it’ll be a great gym attacker.
Metagross
If Metagross would be added to the game today, it would have the fourth highest CP of any Pokemon, just under Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, and Tyranitar. Unlike Tyranitar (which is something of a glass cannon,) Metagross is a well-balanced Pokemon with strong attacks and relatively few weaknesses. As a Psychic/Steel Pokemon, Metagross is resistant to all but a few attacks. While Tyranitar could beat it with Fire or Dark-Type attacks, there’s not much else that could beat Metagross in a one on one battle.
Metagross has an estimated Attack stat of 257, an estimated Defense stat of 248, and an estimated Stamina stat of 160, which means that it’ll be an elite gym attacker and gym defender.
