A whole new set of Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go. While we’re still probably a few months away from the release of “Gen 3” Pokemon, it’s never too early to start looking at some of the new Pokemon and see how they might impact the game. We’re going to take a look at all of the Pokemon that will be included in Pokemon Go‘s next wave of releases based on their types.

First up are Grass-Type Pokemon, one of Pokemon Go‘s more common types. Although Grass-Type Pokemon aren’t usually known for their attacking abilities, “Gen 3” adds several high level attackers that should be useful in the metagame, especially in raids involving Water-Type and Rock-Type Pokemon. Here’s a look at the Grass-Type Pokemon coming soon to Pokemon Go:

Treecko, Grovyle, and Sceptile

sceptile

Treecko is the Hoennย region’s Grass-Type Starter and resembles a bipedal gecko with a thick and curvy tail. As it evolves into Sceptile, it grows powerful leaf blades on its arms and its tail begins to resemble a giant pine tree.ย

Sceptileย will easily be the strongest Grass-Type starter Pokemon inย Pokemon Go. With a far stronger Attack stat than Venusaurย and Meganium, Sceptileย will have some use as a gym attacker, especially as Gen 3 will introduce a ton of Water-Type Pokemon. Unfortunately, Sceptile’sย Defense and Stamina stats aren’t great, so don’t expect to use it as a gym defender.

We don’t know what moves the Treeckoย family will have, but we’re guessing one of them will be Leaf Blade, as it was once Sceptile’sย signature move.ย

Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo

ludicolo

Lotadย looks like a weird duck/platypus with a lilypad on its back. As it evolves into a Ludicolo, itsย lilypadย turns into a sombrero-like hat and it gains a thick layer of fur and an appreciation of music.

Lotad and its evolved forms Lombre and Ludicoloย will add a new type combination toย Pokemon Go: Water/Grass. This unique type combination eliminates a lot of both types’ weaknesses. For instance, Ludicoloย isn’t weak to Electric attacks thanks to its Grass typing, and it isn’t weak against Fire-Type attacks as it’s part Water too.

Ludicolo’sย stats are solid, so it will wind up being comparable toย Victreebel/Vileplumeย in battle. Although it doesn’t have any real strong spots, its unique typing could make it a valuable asset for gym battles.ย

Seedot, Nuzleaf, and Shiftry

Seedotย starts off as a walking seed, but it eventually becomes the weird and knobbyย Shiftry. Shiftryย gains a thick mane of white fur and two branches with thick leaves for hands/arms. Those thick leaves can be used to launch powerful wind-based attacks like Whirlwind, Hurricane, or Leaf Storm.

shiftry

Seedotย is just your average low level Grass-Type Pokemon, but its final evolution Shiftry is a dangerous Grass/Dark-Type Pokemon. Shiftryย is actually one of two Grass/Dark-Type “Gen 3” Pokemon, although its stats are a lot more balanced than Cacturne.

Shiftryย doesn’t have any real strong suits, and we don’t expect it to have much use other than as a fringe Dark-Type attacker.ย

Shroomish and Breloom

breloom

Shroomishย is just a grumpy little mushroom, but its evolved formย Breloom might be the most interesting “Gen 3” Grass-Type Pokemon. Breloomย looks like a kangaroo with a mushroom on top of its hands. With large and powerful legs and short arms tucked in close to its body, Breloomย can quickly move in close to an opponent and then strike with devastating punches.ย

Breloomย is a Grass/Fighting dual-type, making it another unique “Gen 3” typing. What really makes Breloomย stand out is its above average Attack stat. Breloomย will be the best type Grass-Type attackers in the game, as it hasย one of the strongest Attack stats of any non-Legendary Pokemon. Expect to use Breloomย a lot as an attacker, especially as its Grass/Fighting dual-typing gives it a lot ofย versatility in battle. Unfortunately, it also has a lot of weaknesses and poor Defense/Stamina stats, so Breloomย will be an attacker only.ย

Roselia

roselia

Roselia isย a weird Pokemon, not because of its stats or abilities, but because it’s a middle evolution whose pre-evolved and evolved form are both part of a different generation. Roseliaย was originally a standalone Pokemon inย Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, but it quickly picked up both a pre-evolved form (Budew) and an evolved form (Roserade) inย Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.ย

Like most middle evolution Pokemon, Roselia’s stats aren’t much to brag about. However, hang onto Roseliaย as it will come in handy when “Gen 4” Pokemon get added toย Pokemon Go.ย

Cacnea and Cacturne

cacturne

Cacneaย and Cacturneย are cactus-like Pokemon with the ability to shoot thorns and needles from all over its body. Cacturneย is another Grass/Dark hybrid, but with a better Attack stat than Shiftry. Cacturne’sย Attack stat is comparable to both Sceptile and Exeggutor, which means that it should be a top tier Grass-Type attacker.ย

Cacturne’sย secondary Dark-typing might also give it versatility against Psychic-Type Pokemon like Espeon, Mewtwo, or Lugia. Although there’s stronger Dark-Type Pokemon, players won’t have a ton of options and Cacturne’sย Attack stats are comparable to that of Houndoom. Cacturneย won’t be a mainstay on most players’ teams, but it should still have its uses.ย

Lileep and Cradily

cradily

Lileep and Cradilyย are ancient Pokemon resurrected by the power of modern science and resemble ancient sea lilies found near seabeds. Lileepย and Cradilyย are the world’s only Grass/Rock dual-type Pokemon, a combination that actually doesn’t have a ton of weaknesses. Although Grass-Types and Rock-Types have the most weaknesses of any types in theย Pokemon games, Lileepย and Cradilyย are only weak to four types of Attacks (Fighting, Bug, Ice, and Steel).

Cradilyย has above average Defense and Stamina stats for a Grass-Type Pokemon, but it still falls short compared to many other top level defenders.ย

Tropius

tropius

Tropius is a weird Pokemon that resembles a giant dinosaur with four giant leaves on its back. Tropiusย uses those leaves to fly in the sky, and it also has fruit that grows under its chin.

Despite its immense size (it stands over six feet tall and weighs over 200 pounds), Tropiusย isn’t a very useful Pokemon. Tropiusย has high Stamina stats for a Grass-Type Pokemon, but weak Attack stats and only mediocre Defense. We don’t expect Tropiusย to make much of an impact inย Pokemon Go.ย
