We reported yesterday that Pokemon Go had subtly begun the process of notifying its users about its upcoming gym shutdown. The shutdown is a precursor to a major remodel of the gym system to fix what many perceive as one of the least fun parts about the game.

When Niantic announced plans to shut down the gyms, they told fans they'd give advance notice of the shutdown's approach. When a banner appeared on the game's support website yesterday informing players of the shutdown, many took it as the warning Niantic promised.

Today, Niantic updated their banner, clarifying that the shutdown would indeed happen "soon." While it's a subtle change, it could signal that the shutdown isn't quite as imminent as people thought.

The original banner stated that "Gyms are closing temporarily for remodeling" while the revised banner reads that "Gyms will soon be closing temporarily for remodeling." Some fans think this means that the gym shutdown could be days or even weeks away, while others think it could be one of Pokemon Go's notorious "minor text fixes."

One rumor that turned out to be wrong was that the gym shutdown would occur today. Several versions of Niantic's announcement translated into other languages allegedly contained today's date as a possible timeframe for the shutdown.

Even if the shutdown doesn't take place in the next couple of days, fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer for more Pokemon Go news. Niantic said that further information about their upcoming Pokemon Go Fest live event would be released next week.
