Mewtwo has officially appeared in Pokemon Go! This powerful Legendary Pokemon made a surprise appearance at the Pokemon Go Stadium event in Japan earlier this morning, which gave players a chance to team up and defeat it as a Legendary Raid Boss. You can get a first look at what Mewtwo looks like in the photo gallery above. You can also check out a rough video announcing Mewtwo’s arrival at the Pokemon Go Stadium event below:

Similar to Lugia and Articuno’s initial appearance in Chicago last month, players who beat Mewtwo at the Pokemon Go Stadium event are guaranteed to catch it afterwards.
While Pokemon Go hasn’t announced plans to roll out Mewtwo to the rest of the world, it’s expected that they’ll release the new Legendary Pokemon sometime today. It’s unclear if Mewtwo will be a “permanent” Raid Boss or only appear for a week like the Legendary Birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
Mewtwo isn’t expected to be an easy Pokemon to defeat. Mewtwo has the strongest Attack stat in the game and has few weaknesses for players to exploit. Mewtwo is weak against Dark, Bug, and Ghost-Type attacks, which means there’s not a lot of Pokemon that can counter it. Your best bet is to load up your Raid Team with as many Tyranitar as you can, as it’s the only truly effective counter to Mewtwo and might be able to withstand one of its super-powerful charge moves.
We’ll have more Mewtwo coverage throughout the day, so keep watching our Pokemon Facebook page for more coverage.
