While many players who were taking part in yesterday’s late-night Pokemon raids in Pokemon Go may have picked up on the news, others who called it an early night and packed it in with no attempt on the Legendary Raids are just now realizing that raids no longer spawn in the same way that they did before the event.

Previously, players would be able to see an indicator that a raid would be starting soon nearby them so that they wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity. An egg would appear on top of a gym within the area, and Trainers would have time to organized their raid parties so that they could coordinate their efforts to take down the Pokemon, a raid boss that many are likely hoping would be a Legendary Pokemon such as the newly released Lugia or Articuno. The raids would last for an hour to allow enough players to have a shot at the raid during a decent timeframe.

As some players reported last night and many more are noticing today, Pokemon Go’s raids no longer have this countdown before the egg, nor do they even have the egg in the first place. They seem to be just spawning without the impending hatching of an egg. After they’ve been revealed, it also seems that they have an increased raid duration. The timer has been doubled from one hour to two hours to allow for more time to interact with the raids.

It’s unclear whether or not the change is temporary, if it’s a bug, or if it’s simply a permanent change being made. Whatever it is, the change has both positive and negative effects on players. As for the benefits, some players are reporting that the lack of raid countdowns reduce clutter on their mobile devices due to less notifications. The change also has the potential to make raids more enjoyable given that they just show up without warning, leading to some impromptu raids for a nearby Lugia, but some players have already noted that it makes it extremely hard to organize raids.

There’s been no statement about the change and whether or not it’s permanent or just lasts for the 48-hour bonus window that’s active, so for now, players will have to get used to these changed circumstances surrounding raids.
