Suicune, Raikou, and Entei first appeared in Pokemon Silver and Gold as roaming Legendary Pokemon that appeared throughout the Johto region. Trainers could track the Legendary Pokemon using their Pokedex and slowly wear them down over multiple encounters.
Pokemon Go took inspiration from Pokemon Gold and Silver‘s roaming mechanic by rotating where each Legendary Pokemon will appear. During the month of August, Raikou will appear in North and South America, Suicune will appear in Asia and Australia, and Entei will appear in Europe and Africa. All three Legendary Pokemon will rotate to a different set of continents at the end of the month and then again at the end of October.
All three Legendary Beasts will only appear as Raid Bosses, so players will have to keep an eye out on their local gyms to see when these Legendary Pokemon will appear. However, these Pokemon will be available to all players, unlike the upcoming EX Raid Battles, which were also announced earlier today.
Shortly before the Legendary Birds went live, Pokemon Go uploaded assets for the new Legendary Pokemon and their Shiny counterparts into the game’s backend. You can check out a first look at the new Pokemon in the gallery above.
Of the three Legendary Pokemon, Entei and Raikou will both be highly sought after by Pokemon Go players. Both are among the most powerful Pokemon of their respective types and have high Attack stats perfect for gym and raid battles.
