Earlier today, The Pokemon Company announced Pokken Tournament DX, a deluxe version of the popular Pokemon fighting game for the Nintendo Switch. Not only will Pokken Tournament DX come with a heap of extra features and modes that weren’t part of the original game, it will also feature five new fighters.

Four of the fighters will probably be familiar to Pokken fans as they currently appear in the arcade version of the game found in Japan. But – we’re also getting a new character from Pokemon Sun and Moon, which wasn’t available when Pokken came out in early 2016.
So who are these characters? Let’s take a look at each one, as well as their abilities (when known.)
Darkrai
Darkrai is a powerful Mythical Pokemon with the ability to eat the dreams of other Pokemon and humans. Darkrai is classified as a “Technical” Pokemon and has a variety of abilities, ranging from zone attacks to gap closers. Darkrai is especially dangerous as it can attack from both close range and at a distance, and can even create a clone of itself to serve as a decoy.ย
Darkrai’s special moves includes Dark Pulse, Nasty Plot, and Shadow Claw. It can also activate its Nightmare mode by using Dark Void and has the powerful Eternal Eclipse as its Burst Move.ย

Croagunk
Croagunk isย the first Pokemon to make the switch from Support Pokemon to an Active Fighter inย Pokken Tournament. Croagunk already appeared in the Wii U version of the game as a Support Pokemon that could lower an opponent’s defense with its Toxic attack, but now it’ll be frustrating Pokemon as a primary fighter with an emphasis on Speed attacks.ย
Croagunk is a mischieveous Pokemon that uses its speed to get up close and score quick but powerful hits on its opponents.ย Itsย repertoire of moves includes headbutts, body slams, and slaps, along with a few Poison Jabs. Croagunk’s Burst Move uses Double Team to pin an opponent with clones so that it can fire off an explosive and powerful Toxic attack.
Empoleon
The stout and defensively minded Empoleon will also be appearing inย Pokken Tournament DX. Empoleon is the fully evolved form of Piplup, one of the Starter Pokemon fromย Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.ย
Empoleon has two primary ways of attacking opponents. Most of its physical moves involve the sharp blades on its wings, which it uses to slack and hash at opponents. Empoleon can also use an Ice Beam to either freeze opponents or freeze the ground so it can get a burst of speed for a surprise attack.
Empoleon’s Burst Move uses a Whirlpool to trap an opponent so Empoleon can then hit it with a powerful Tackle attack. ย
Scizor
The dangerous Scizor is also joiningย Pokken Tournament DXย as a Power-Type fighter. Scizor is the evolved form of Scyther, with razor sharp wings and two powerful clamp-like claws.
Scizor acts like a buzzsaw inย Pokken, using a variety of slashing moves to beat up opponents. When coupled with its flying abilities, Scizor can strike from the ground or the air, allowing it to slip through an opponent’s defenses at multiple angles. Scizorย can also wield a Hyper Beam attack to blast opponents at a distance.
We’re not sure what Scizor’s burst move is called, but it involves Scizor tossing its opponent into the air and then bashing them multiple times with its claws.ย
Decidueye
The final new fighter is Decidueye, the bowย wielding Grass-Pokemon fromย Pokemon Sun and Moon. Decidueye (or Owl-iver Queen as some fans call him) uses its long wings to strike opponents and fire its razor sharp feathers like arrows.ย
While we only got a glimpse of Decidueye in the Pokken Tournamentย trailer, we can guess what its Burst Move will be. Decidueye can use the special Z-Move Sinister Arrow Raid to fire off hundreds of arrows at its opponent at once.ย ย
