Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is the sequel to developer Tripwire Interactive’s first game in the war series, Rising Storm. As the name suggests, in this second installation of the series, players take up arms in Vietnam as they engage in some tactical first-person combat. The game has the option for players to control either the U.S. Army and U.S. Marines forces or they can choose to play as the National Liberation Front and the North Vietnamese Army.

Gameplay consists of pitting a whopping 64 players against each other in tactical combat that utilizes both weapons and strategies that are unique to the era the game takes place in. There are over 30 unique weapons that can be used with some of the weapon attachments being customizable to further create loadouts. Uniforms can also be personalized as you navigate your forces throughout a historically-accurate landscape. Specialized Commander Abilities also provide unique options on the battlefield such as artillery strikes and napalm attacks.

Several improvements were also made in the game to set it apart from the first Rising Storm. A tunneling system has been introduced this time around, something that further lends to the historical accuracy of the game. There’s also now the option to control military aircraft.

Experience with first-person shooters will make many players comfortable with many aspects of this game, but once you start getting into areas such as class roles and map objectives, there’s a bit of a learning curve. To help combat this, Tripwire Interactive has uploaded a series of tutorial videos to help players hit the ground running when the game’s fully released.

In the meantime, the game has left it’s closed beta stage and has moved into an open beta that will last until Monday. Players can use this time to get a feel for the game, and if it proves to their liking, there are limited time discounts. The Digital Deluxe edition of the game comes with some early unlocks and other exclusive items and is currently on sale on Steam for $22.49 until the game’s launch.
