Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Releasing On Nintendo Switch Next Week

Ever since it made its debut on consoles late last year, WayForward's Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has been creating quite a stir for platforming fans. It's definitely like the old-school adventures a lot of fans remember, but with some modern-day gaming touches, like hand-drawn animation and an awesome soundtrack. And, yes, we highly enjoyed it.

Good news – it's about to head to another platform. WayForward has confirmed that Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will make its way to the Nintendo Switch next week. The game will arrive on June 8th, and it will be priced around $19.99, though that has yet to be finalized.

The game is already available for a number of other platforms, including the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita and PC, but fans have been clamoring to see it make its debut on the Nintendo Switch – and the developer has happily obliged.

In the game, you portray Shantae, a magical genie who finds herself against evil forces, including crooks, demons and pirates, as she attempts to keep her village safe. It's been a big hit since its release, and is also one of the bigger Kickstarter crowdfunding campaigns in the early running, obtaining over $776,000 during its initial run in autumn 2013.

The Shantae series has been doing rather well for Wayforward over the past few years, despite the fact that the studio has been hard at work on other games, like DuckTales Remastered for Capcom and Double Dragon Neon for Majesco, amongst other projects. It got its start way back in the older part of gaming, where the original release still fetches a pretty penny on the market (despite a digital re-release that came out a while back). Of course, it's easy to see its appeal, as it relies on old-school platforming action and design that's appealing to players old and young (even though the characters indicate it's more for the older-style audience, with their suggestive wear).

It'll be good to see Shantae make a stop on the Nintendo Switch…and then, we assume, maybe we'll see a sequel come around from Wayforward. heck out the trailer below to see it in action!
