We all played Rampage as kids — either at home on our Sega Genesis or in the Pizza Hut arcades as we waited for a table. We already know what this game, and this film, are really about. It’s about huge monsters kicking through buildings, swiping helicopters out of the sky, and mounting and pummeling skyscrapers like they were punching bags. Total destruction is the name of the game, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just tweeted an image which confirms the scale of utter ruin we can expect in the upcoming Rampage film.

“We have a problem. The beasts survived.” What exactly did the beasts survive? We’re looking at one of two things here. According to what we know about Rampage so far, in the film adaptation our enormous, monstrous ape didn’t start out enormous or monstrous.

Primatologist Davis Okoye, played by Dwayne Johnson, is actually friends with the building-leveling gorilla. It used to be a lovable companion named George, until a “rogue genetic experiment” went (predictably) wrong. This failed experiment is what turned George into a huge, rampaging ape, and we assume that some kind of wolf and lizard monsters will be similarly transformed. What we’re looking at could Okoye’s ruined laboratory after the three beasts grew and found the nearest city to, uh, rampage in.

Otherwise this is the result of some kind of military onslaught which was carried out in order to destroy the monsters. The outer ring almost looks like something you’d see in the cockpit of a helicopter or jet of some kind, so it’s possible that Okoye is walking away from the wreckage of a battle between the genetically mutated beasts and the military.

Either way, I’m thinking we can expect Michael Bay levels of destruction and action. We need a trailer ASAP, but for now these teases will have to do. Stay tuned to WWG for all the latest on Rampage.
