This week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu has new details on Valkyria Chronicles 4, and includes explanations of two very interesting new characters. While the game’s most recent trailer introduced fans to the primary heroes of the story, this one focuses on two characters who serve aboard the Centurion.

The first of the new characters is Sergio Maskyura, a military doctor who was once a pediatrician, but war tends to alter people’s professionas without permission. Despite that, Maskyura is described as a kind and funny character, even though he has something of a dark side that comes out when people try to get out of being treated. The character is voiced by Masaya Takatsuka.

Next up is Andre Dunoa, a military veteran of three decades who served in the Imperial Navy. He’s the Centurion’s chief mechanic, who pushes his men harshly and knows quite a bit about weaponry. Dunoa is voiced by veteran voice actor Shin Aomori, who some might recognize as Kibito from Dragon Ball Z.

Additionally, the issue is said to contain all-new screen shots from the game, giving characters a better look at the cast and the vast setting.

The game is packed with interesting features, and it really looks like it’s going to take players a while to get through, especially for the completionists:

A Coming-of-Age Story in a Time of War

Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place in the same timeframe as the original Valkyria Chronicles, but focuses on a whole new cast of main characters. Players will take command of the eager, young Commander Claude Wallace, engineer/heavy weapons extraordinaire Riley Miller, hotheaded Darcsen Raz, ice-cold ace sniper Kai Schulen, and more. Together, they will experience the painful realities of warโ€“but will the bonds of Squad E’s friendships survive the frozen battlefield?

The Next Generation “BLiTZ” Battle System

The part overhead turn-based strategy, part RPG, and part real-time 3rd person shooter “BLiTZ” battle system returns to the field. New features include an explosive new class called the Grenadier, numerous offensive/defensive battleship support options, chances for a unit to have a “Last Stand” action before death, and more. Plus, fight the imperial threat with more units on larger-scale maps than ever before.

CANVAS Aesthetics

The series’ signature hand-drawn visual style is back and overhauled for the newest generation. Inspired by watercolor compositions, the CANVAS Graphics Engine blends visual elements of reality and imagination to create an expressive world filled with colorful emotions. Watch the journey of Squad E unfold like an interactive painting!

The Return of a Legendary Composer

The illustrious Hitoshi Sakimoto, original composer of the Valkyria Chronicles series and countless other emotional epics, returns to provide a sweeping orchestral soundtrack for the game.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is set for release for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 later this year.
