For some time now it’s been a rather poorly-kept secret that a sequel to 2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order and now Fallout and Doom publisher Bethesda has made it official at their E3 2017 press conference. You can check out the blood-soaked debut trailer for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, above.

The trailer is kind of all over the place, feeling like three or four different trailers at once. We start with a faux 60s American sitcom, expect in this one everybody can speak German and keep giant robotic dogs as pets. We then catch up with B.J. Blazkowicz, who awakens in a hospital, weakened and with some nasty new scars. It also seems ol’ B.J. is going to be a father.

We’re then witness to the return of the despicable Frau Engel, the disturbing sight of America under Nazi rule, and B.J. recruiting some new allies. Of course, the trailer wraps up with an absolute orgy of brutal Nazi destruction, andโ€ฆa trippy cartoon lizard? It looks like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will be tripping even further down the 60s rabbit hole!

Wolfenstein II: The New Order took place in an alternate version of the 1960s where the Nazis won World War II. That may sound like a concept to clever for its own good, but developer MachineGames actually pulled it off with a deft balance of humor and horror. It seems like the developer has another winner on their hands with Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

As mentioned, the existence of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus isn’t a total surprise. A German Amazon listing leaked the game’s name yesterday, and with Bethesda marketing exec Pete Hines hinted very strongly that something was in the works back in February:

“MachineGames has been hard at work on something, which I can tell you I have played. It is f**king bananas. And I can’t wait to show what it actually is.”

I’d say The New Colossus is as f**cking bananas as advertised.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on October 27, 2018.
