The Xbox Live Games With Gold for October have been officially revealed and, well, they’re not quite as great as the earlier “leak” led us to believe. We were rather hoping for more Halloween-related titles to spice up our October and get us all screaming, but what we have here is a fairly solid lineup that will definitely get the comments section roaring. On the Xbox One side, at least, we do have some really solid entries. Just prepare yourselves for the “lol indie game” rhetoric.

The big headliner this month is Gone Home. While it may not be a straight up horror game, it is a slow and creeping narrative adventure that builds up a ton of atmosphere and ambience, both of which are maintained throughout the relatively short experience. It’s not the blockbuster that Shadow of Mordor is, but then, it’s a game that many of you haven’t played yet. Don’t overlook it!

Now then, let’s dive into the full lineup. We’ll kick things off with the Xbox One games, and then move on to the Xbox 360 games, all of which are playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.

Xbox One Lineup

Gone Home: Console Edition (October 1 – 31)

  • “Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family’s lives by investigating what they’ve left behind.”

The Turing Test (October 16 – November 15)

  • “The Turing Test is a first person puzzler that explores the phenomena of consciousness and challenges the meaning of human intuition. Take control of Ava Turing, an engineer for the International Space Agency (ISA), and progress through a narrated story of introspection and morality whilst uncovering the hidden mysteries of Europa. Delve into The Turing Test’s human interaction puzzles and arm yourself with logical and methodical thinking. Take on tests designed in such a way that only a human could solve them. In an evolving story based on mankind’s inherent need to explore, protect and survive; players search deeper into Europa’s ice crusted core and transcend the line between man and machine.”
