This year's E3 presentation from Microsoft was nothing short of superb, with a number of great games due for the Xbox One and the forthcoming Xbox One X. But there were two noticeable franchises missing from the showcase – Halo and Gears of War.

Both 343 Industries and The Coalition, the respective developers of said franchises, didn't have anything to show this year, but that doesn't mean they aren't working on anything. In fact, while speaking with Weekly Famitsu, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that the teams are working on something, but stopped short on saying just what yet.

He noted that he paid a visit to both studios recently, and said that he has "seen amazing work" across both studios.

Now, this could really mean anything. We could be looking at sequels in the respective Halo and Gears of War franchise, or perhaps something new that are being worked on. Again, it's hard to tell with such a vague answer.

Still, the fact that the teams are keeping busy with something is good news, and indicates that we'll be seeing their work on both the Xbox One and Xbox One X down the road. Hell, we could be seeing what they have planned as soon as next year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, but nothing is confirmed just yet.

In addition to hinting what the teams are up to, Spencer also talked about the E3 line-up revealed at the Xbox briefing, stating that he was happy with the line-up, even without the presence of the two big franchises that 343 and The Coalition are responsible for. He also noted that he was glad to have presented the likes of Sea of Thieves, Super Lucky's Tail, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and other new IP's, and he was quite appreciative of the response they all received during their presentation.

Hopefully next year's showcase can be just as good as what we saw this year, but we'll have to wait a bit to find out what. Meanwhile, you can find Halo 5: Guardians and Gears of War 4, the latest games from those developers, on Xbox One.
