LEGO x Disney Cars Lightning McQueen Speed Champions Set Is Up For Pre-Order (Exclusive)

Yesterday, LEGO revealed the highly anticipated LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star, but today they’re…ahem…shifting gears to celebrate Lightning McQueen Day 2025 and the 20th anniversary of the original Cars film which is coming up in 2026. Today, LEGO and Disney / Pixar are debuting the Speed Champions Lightning McQueen set, and they’re doing it right here at Comicbook. Details are available below, but if you want to get right to it, pre-orders are expected to go live today, September 5th at 1pm ET here at the LEGO Shop priced at $27.99 with an official release date of January 1st.

LEGO notes that the Speed Champions Lightning McQueen set is a 270-piece minifigure scale model replica, complete with the instantly recognizable red body, the yellow-orange lightning bolt with the number 95, Rust-Eze sponsor stickers, “Lightyear” printing on the wheels and, of course, McQueen’s cheeky smile. Lightning McQueen Day was first celebrated in 2017 as part of the festivities surrounding the debut of Cars 3 in theaters. As you might have guessed, it falls on 9/5 as it matches the Cars character’s iconic #95 racing number. Fans of the Disney / Pixar classic can expect to see various events and promotions during the day in addition to new merch. We might even see an announcement or two.
