The next wave of Playmates Toys’ Power Rangers toy line is now hitting stores, and it brings the Thunderzords and the Tigerzord to fans’ collections. There is still one key Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Zord unaccounted for in the Dragonzord, but now fans can add the Green Ranger’s trusty Zord to their collections thanks to a new Kickstarter campaign. That said, the final product will be different from the one being shown right now, as some changes are coming after feedback.

The Re-Ignition Combinable Dragonzord is over 75% funded and still has 26 days to go, so it does seem more than likely that it will end up funding. While there has clearly been support for the Dragonzord, there have also been several critiques and issues with it, including the larger screw hole on the nose and the lack of a face underneath the Dragonzord’s head when converted into Battle Mode. Now Playmates Toys is addressing one of those issues and making some changes to address others, which should make this Dragonzord even better.
A New And Improved Power Rangers Dragonzord Is On The Way

The first is the screw hole that can’t help but stand out on one side of the nose. Playmates confirmed that the screw hole will be filled with a matching color plastic plug in the final version, which is great news. In an official Kickstarter update, Playmates also revealed they have received their first notes from Hasbro and have also heard the comments and reactions from the fans, and they will look to address as many of them as possible.
A new model is being developed soon, and it could be 2 to 3 weeks until they receive the improved model, but they also said that fans and backers will be informed and shown the new model well before funding ends. That means that fans could see several updates and improvements to the design, though there is one feature in particular that most fans want to see.

While the screw hole was a common complaint about the Dragonzord, the missing pulldown face when in Battle Mode was the loudest and most frequent criticism, and while it was initially stated that the feature wasn’t planned, hopefully this update means that we’ll see that implemented in the final version.
In the update, Playmates wrote, “The very ‘firstโ model/paint master arrived in our US office late last week (in time for sales shows going on in Los Angeles right now). Improvements are needed, some details are missing. We have received a first round of comments from Hasbro, and now we have yours. A new model is being developed soon. This is always part of the year-plus process of making collectible product.”
Playmates continued, writing, “It could be 2-3 weeks until we receive that improved model to begin our packaging photography. Weโll update you then, and share some more behind the scenes, including illustrations and engineering drawings as we add details.”
A major update featuring the new model could help spur on the last stretch of funding for the Dragonzord if it’s released with ample time before the campaign closes, and that’s especially true if they end up adding the second face to truly recreate Battle Mode.
