Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is more than willing to use his super-strength to his advantage when needed and use his unbreakable skin to protect the innocent. Being impatient and taking no joy in it, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) prefers to use her super-strength to put an end to the fight as quickly as possible. Often brimming with confidence, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) is eager to show off his martial art skills, and if that’s not enough, he’ll summon the power of the Iron Fist to finish the job. As for Daredevil, he too is a master martial arist; however, he is also a bit of brawler, taking after his father, and uses his heightened senses to outsmart and outkick his able-eyed opponents.

The main villain that the street-level superheroes will be going up against is Alexandra, the elegant head of an ancient organization. She is being played by Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters), and although the legendary actress is now 67-years-old, she had plenty of her own fight sequences.

“[Weaver] said, ‘I’ve never been a martial arts kind of gal, I’m more of a hold-the-flamethrower kind of gal,’” co-showrunner Marco Ramirez recalled to LA Times. “I’d love to tattoo that interaction onto my forehead forever. She was really willing to do things, to really get dirty, it was wonderful.”

Marvel’s The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Marvel’s Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

The Defenders premieres on Netflix August 18.
