Craig Kyle, one of the producers of Marvel Studios’ Thor movies as well as the creator of X-23 and writer of several Marvel comics and animated series, snapped a photo of the gathering of Marvel’s greatest heroines for his own daughter.
“I took this shot for my daughter and it’s the coolest picture I’ve ever taken!” Kyle tweeted, accompanied by the hashtag “#BadassLadiesOfMarvel.”

From left to right, the photo includes Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Evangeline Lilly (Wasp), and Pom Klementieff.
This photo and the excitement its generated on social media may be the best case yet for an all-female Avengers movie like the one that Thompson pitched to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. During a press junket for Thor: Ragnarok, Feige recalled the pitch and how he turned around to see a grouping pretty similar to the one shown in the above photo, saying he was “tapped on the shoulder and turn around to find a gang of the MCU’s female powerhouses, all standing and waiting to hear what you have to say.”
If that doesn’t convince Feige to greenlight the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of A-Force, the Lady Liberators, the Fearless Defenders, or some other Marvel superhero girl squad then nothing will. With 20 more Marvel Studios movies in the work following the fourth Avengers movie, there’s plenty of opportunity for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s heroines to take center stage.
“22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything we’ve done before – intentionally,” Feige said.
An all-female superhero team would certainly be something different. Feige already regrets letting DC Films beat Marvel Studios to the punch by letting Warner Bros. release Wonder Woman before Marvel could get Captain Marvel into theaters. Here’s a chance for Marvel to take the lead.
Thor: Ragnarok is now playing in theaters. Other upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies include; Black Panther on February 16, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.
