There’s a connection between the New Mutants and Brazil. Roberto “Bobby” da Costa, aka Sunspot (Henry Zaga), is Brazillian, and so it sounds like the sequel may involve Sunspot’s origin or family connections.

In the Marvel Comics universe, Sunspot’s mutant solar form first manifested when he was fourteen years old following one of his soccer games. A group of racists was beating the boy when his body became solid black solar energy.

Unfortunately for Bobby, the Hellfire Club caught wind of his abilities and sent agents to kidnap him. He was eventually rescued by mutants who soon become his New Mutants classmates and teammates, but not before his girlfriend, Juliana, sacrificed her life to take a bullet for Bobby, a moment that would haunt Bobby for some time to come. Sunspot joined the rest of the group on the hunt for Donald Pierce and the Hellfire Club.

Another twist that would haunt Sunspot for years came later when he discovered that his father, a wealthy industrialist, was a member of the Hellfire Club’s Inner Circle. Sunspot would eventually take over his father’s position in the Hellfire Club.

The Amazon rainforest in Brazil is also the location of the hidden city of Nova Roma, a forgotten Roman colony that hasn’t changed with the passage of time. It is there that the New Mutants first encounter one of the team’s first new members, Magma, as well as the psychic, mutant vampire Selene.

At Comic Con Experience, 20th Century Fox also released a teaser poster for the upcoming movie featuring Sunspot and the other four lead characters: Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy), Cannonball (Charlie Heaton), and Mirage (Blue Hunt). However, there is some uncertainty about the future of The New Mutants movies and all of the X-Men movies with the news that Disney is very close to purchasing 20th Century Fox.
