Lee worked alongside 'the King' Jack Kirby for many of Marvel's most memorable characters including Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, and the two reintroduced Kirby creation Captain America to a new generation of comic readers. He also co-created Spider-Man alongside Steve Ditko, but the writer continues working on new ideas for his company POW! Entertainment.

"I might come up with a new character who is more popular than the ones I've already done, or I might want to come up with a whole new kind of entertainment," Lee said at the event, as reported by Variety. "The big thing is to keep working and keep trying to create, and hope you come up with something good."

Lee suffered the tragic passing of his wife Joan Lee earlier this month. He paid tribute to Joan at his acceptance today when he said he was "lucky to have a wonderful wife."

The characters Lee helped create for the modern Marvel Universe endure to this day with multiple different film franchises that have seen unprecedented success in Hollywood.
