A new casting call for ‘Mary Lou’ – Infinity War‘s working title – suggests that the film will include some sort of 1960s flashback. The announcement, which is courtesy of Central Casting Georgia, asks for actresses to play secretaries and female engineers in the 1960s.
“Secretaries: Looking for women who appear to be Caucasian, 20s-50s, to portray 1960s secretaries/clerks. Hair must be period-appropriate: no longer than shoulder length, no dye, no modern colors or cuts. Must be dress size 0-8.”
“Female Engineers: Looking for women who appear to be Caucasian, 20s-50s, to portray 1960s engineers in this VERY small scene. Hair must be period-appropriate: short hair, no longer than shoulder length, no dye, no modern colors or cuts. Must be dress size 0-8.”
No other details are known about the scene, other than that the scene involving the secretaries will film on October 10th and 11th, while the female engineers scene is set to film on October 12th, 13th, and 16th.
Casting calls like these have caused quite a bit of speculation amongst fans during Infinity War’s filming. Everything from Nick Fury’s potential return to an appearance by Captain Marvel have been decoded by these announcements. While this statement is much more vague, there’s a chance that it could reveal something surprising about the next two Avengers installments.
The Return of Peggy Carter?
Some might assume that the flashback could be taking place at Stark or Pym Technologies, considering their scientific impact on the Marve Cinematic Universe. While that could very easily be true, the running theory amongst fansย is that the scene could show a version of S.H.I.E.L.D., andย include none other than Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).
Peggy’s return to the MCUย has been campaigned for by many, after Agent Carter‘s cancellation a few years back. Considering the fictional universe’s current timelineย – and Peggy’s death in Captain America: Civil War – the best avenue to do so would be in the form of a flashback. And with Peggy being alive and well in the 1960s, it isn’t out of the question that she could factor into this 1960s Infinity War scene.
But how would that tie into the larger plot of the Avengers saga? Fans have been speculating about that for months now, after the Infinity War teaser was first screened at San Diego Comic-Con. In the teaser, the Time Gem (one of the film’s six Infinity Stones) was introduced, alongside a narration proclaiming that “time can fix anything”. The teaser then transitioned intoย Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) talking to an elderly Peggy in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, followed by footage of her younger self.
While that tidbitย should probably best be taken with a grain of salt, some have taken it to believe that the Time Gem will be used to revisit Peggy at an earlier point in her life, or possibly bring her back to life. Fans will just have to wait and see if that does become a reality when Infinity War debuts next year.
