It’s been awhile since moviegoers have seen the Black Widow and Hulk share any screen time, but the pair will come back together soon. Next year, Marvel Studios will reunite the two heroes when Avengers: Infinity War makes it into theaters. Now, Scarlett Johansson is opening up about the long-awaited reunion, and the actress promises it won’t go well for either hero.

“I just finished Avengers: Infinity War. The first one. My character has this ongoing relationship with Mark Ruffalo’s character. I had such devastation that day. I don’t know why. I was so devastated,” Johansson explained.
“It was something about this character that Mark plays, and this is something that should feel so solid and suddenly doesn’t or there’s… And it reminded me of so much of the things going on in my own life at the timeโฆ”
For fans, the crumbling relationship between the two Avengers will be a point of celebration. Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced the budding romance between Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner, and it was not greeted with universal praise. Both fans and critics were quick to pan the relationship because of its forced progression; The film’s slapstick scene where Bruce falls into Natasha’s chest enraged plenty of moviegoers, and the pair’s awkward separation at its end was equally uncomfortable.
Right now, it seems likely that the relationship between Black Widow and the Hulk won’t make it past Avengers: Infinity War. The devastation which Johansson mentioned in her interview could nod to the pair’s fallout. Fans will have to wait and see just how the friends will navigate their new relationship following the fallout of Ultron, Civil War, and Thanos’ arrival. Just, don’t expect for the relationship to come out stronger for any of it.
