A growing number of memes have been made about the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, and it looks like the film’s directors are even joining in on the fun.

The Facebook page for Joe and Anthony Russo recently shared a meme, which was initially created by Cory Schulthies. The edit replaces Infinity War villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) with a pretty unexpected character – Arrested Development‘s Buster Bluth (Tony Hale).
For Arrested Development fans, it isn’t too hard to see why this meme is a perfect (albeit unusual) match. In season two, Buster ends up losing his hand in a seal-related accident, and ends up having to wear a prosthetic hook hand. When Buster is attempting to acclimate to his new hand, he doesn’t take things well, exclaiming (as the meme says) “I’m a monster!”
Aside from just being a perfect pop culture mashup, the meme does have ties to the Russo Brothers, who directed ten episodes of Arrested Development‘s initial run. And now that the duo have developed a penchant for putting their sitcom alums (namely, those from Community) in their Marvel films, we have to admit that we kind of want to see Tony Hale hold the Infinity Gauntlet.
The actual Avengers: Infinity War trailer (which does not contain Buster Bluth) has been a hit with fans, breaking viewership records and dominating social media. While the trailer has plenty of amazing moments, it’s also given fans quite a bit to laugh about with regard to Thanos. Aside from just good old memes, fans have amusingly linked the Mad Titan to everything from Stone Cold Steve Austin to One Punch Man.
Avengers: Infinity War will debut on May 4th, 2018.
