Every hero has their roots. In Black Panthers, T’Challa’s will be revealed, following his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War.

In Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa lost his father in a tragic explosion. Such a loss made him hungry for revenge against the Sokovian survivor who wants the Avengers dead. However, before the film came to a conclusion, he took on an important trait which T’Chaka, his father, had always tried to instill in him: diplomacy. Rather than killing Baron Zemo, Black Panther spared his life and allowed the justice system to have its way with him, instead.

In the Black Panther movie, the character portrayed by Chadwick Boseman will rely on his other parent to guide him as he becomes the King of Wakanda, with Angela Bassett stepping into the role of T’Challa’s mother Ramonda.

“She is one of the advisors that he would look to,” Boseman tells EW. “He has to look to her for some of the answers of what his father might want or might do. She may not be exactly right all the time, but she definitely has insights. The one thing I will say about all the female characters in this movie is that they are very strong. It’s a very matriarchal society. She is the queen mother. And she’s that for not just him, but for everybody. She’s has her hands in everything โ€“ even his love life.”

As for that love life, Boseman equates Black Panther’s relationship with women to that of the iconic British secret agent James Bond.

More details of Black Panther will continue to trickle out in the lead up to San Diego Comic Con later this month, with the expectation of a new trailer being released during the Marvel Studios panel. However, with D23 on the horizon, the possibility of Marvel getting a jump on the competition a week ahead of SDCC’s massive news bursts remains.
