While fans may be fantasizing about the day when the X-Men can crossover with the Avengers on the big screen, X-Men director Bryan Singer sees a future where the X-Men film franchise is big enough to crossover with itself.
Signer says he “absolutely” envisions a future where the X-Men, X-Force, Deadpool and New Mutants all get together for an Avengers style event movie, though he does say such a massive project would have to be handled with care.

“But it has to be done right,” Singer tells Fandango. “Anytime you throw all these characters together to hit a start date, it can make a lot of money, but it can also be a clusterf**k. To me, it has to be done with a lot of care. These things can get overwhelming, and if a character doesn’t belong in a movie, don’t use him. If the tone can still maintain itself, I’m all for it. What I’m not for is throwing a bunch of characters together and hoping it works.”
That would certainly be a huge undertaking for fox, especially since most of their X-Men movie series are focused on teams rather than individual heroes. However, these kinds of “X-overs” are a staple of the X-Men comics, which would make such an event film even more exciting for longtime fans.
We’ll have to see how things begin to take shape as the franchise enters its next “phase.”
