The cover, created by Mark Brooks, shows Captain America, Steve Rogers, standing in the middle of what appears to be a fiery war zone. Captain America’s costume is torn revealing the Hydra insignia on what looks like it may be a new. Hydra-themed costume. On the other hand, it may just be a symbolic representation of Captain America revealing that he is and always has been a loyal agent of Hydra, at least since Kobik rewrote his history.

Secret Empire is being billed as the major event that the Marvel Universe has been building towards for month. Jack Flag’s apparent death, the trial of Maria Hill, Civil War II, and the coming of the Chitauri invasion force have all been leading to Secret Empire, and Secret Empire #0 will set the stage.

“Wherever you find favor within the Marvel Universe, Secret Empire is a story for you,” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso in a press release. “When the world’s most respected and trusted super hero, Captain America, assumes ultimate power and goes bad, it serves as a rallying cry for all the heroes. Avengers, X-Men, Guardians, Inhumans and street-level heroes unite to fight for the fate โ€“ and soul โ€“ of the Marvel Universe.”

Secret Empire #0, written by Nick Spencer with art by Daniel Acuna, hits stores in April. Secret Empire #1, written by Spencer with art by Steve McNiven, arrives in May. See Brooks’ full cover below.
