Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange has collected a very impressive half-a-billion at the worldwide box office, so far, and even though Warner Bros’ Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will knock Marvel’s latest blockbuster off its North American perch this weekend, it’s still expected to pull in another $15 million in its third domestic frame.
And like previous Marvel films, it too has its own “The Art of the Movie” tie-in book, and it is stuffed with gorgeous concept art that was conjured up by its talented art department. The book will be released next week, and to celebrate, concept artist Karla Ortiz has shared some of her work that appears in it. This includes early and unused designs for Karl Mordo and muliple views of Doctor Strange’s costume and magic-activating hand gestures.

“It was quite a challenge to bring the entirety of the look together,” Ortiz said of her illustrations of Doctor Strang, “while keeping the feeling of the comics alive! Not just this but all the costume pieces had to work both individually and in unison.”
