It seems like the hunt will never end for the final, mysterious easter egg in Guardians of the Galaxy. When director James Gunn hinted that there was a major easter egg still sitting in the rubble of his superhero space opera, fans were interested in finding the teaser. However, that interest turned into obsession shortly after Gunn began commenting on the fabled easter egg recently. The director jokingly put money on the line if he was lying about the hidden teaser, and fans are now more desperate to find the easter egg than ever before. And, now, there’s one fan who thinks they may have figured it out.

Over on Reddit, user My_Barbaric_Yawp posted an intriguing theory to the site that fans are freaking out over. The netizen believe that the easter egg is one that refers to Pip the Troll. According to them, the comic character is hinted at throughout the film by Gunn’s interspersed shots of Troll dolls, and they’ve got some convincing reasons as to why their theory has legs to it.

They explained, “In the scene at the beginning of the movie where Star-Lord is trying to escape from the planet Morag, his ship gets hit with a jet of water. Soon after that, the camera shows the interior of his ship while it is being jostled around. At one point, an orange-haired troll goes right in front of the camera. (As far as I can tell, this is not the same troll that Star-Lord uses to trick Yondu at the end). Unfortunately, my computer skills are not good enough to get a picture.”

“I think the easter egg is the that troll, specifically, that it’s Pip the Troll. For those who don’t want to click on the link, Pip is a character who used to be a prince on some planet. He is heavily involved in the Marvel Cosmic stories in the comics, primarily as a partner/comic foil to Adam Warlock. However, he has also interacted with various members of the Guardians of the Galaxy on multiple occasions, and has also been tied to a couple of the infinity gems (particularly the space gem). Like the troll in Star-Lord’s ship, he is commonly drawn with red/orange hair and wearing brown clothes.”

The netizen then went on to explain why the theory is not a throwaway suggested only because of Gunn’s recent statements. The Reddit user said that Pip the Troll is one of the few Marvel Cosmic character who haven’t been in the movies or already been dismissed by Gunn already.

And, what’s more, the netizen has made a convincing appeal to Gunn and his perhaps trollish behavior. The director has been teasing fans for so long about the easter egg that some have dared call him a troll, so this theory would be rather appropriate considering Pip’s appearance.
